Day 3 Itinerary

Total Drive Time: 2 hours

Urriðafoss waterfall

This waterfall isn’t as popular as many others in Iceland but is still beautiful and has none of the crowds. It’s a short drive off the main road and only a few steps from the parking lot.

Gluggafoss

This tucked away waterfall is so beautiful and has very few crowds. Its a short climb from the parking lot to see the viewpoint pictured below.

Seljalandsfoss

This is one of Iceland’s most visited waterfalls and this stop is a must! It’s most unique feature is that it allows visitors to walk behind the falls offering a 360 view. It’s only a short walk from the parking lot. Bring a waterproof jacket when walking behind the falls. This is a good place to rest for lunch. There’s a small cafe next to the falls offering snacks and warm drinks. Also, check out Gljúfrabúi waterfall, a 10 minute walk from Seljalandsfoss.

Rutshellir Caves

Rutshellir Caves is a fun stop, right off the road, on the way to Skógafoss. These small, man made caves can be found underneath a rocky mountain located on a local farm. To get there, cross over the ladder hung across the fence. The caves are free entry.

Skógafoss Waterfall

My favorite waterfall in Iceland! This striking 60m waterfall doesn’t require any hiking and is a short walk from the parking lot. However, there is an optional view point above the falls that is accessible by staircase and I’d recommend checking it out. If you chose to hike past the upper view point, you can see smaller waterfalls along the river that feed into Skógafoss. I stopped at the first 3 waterfalls on the trail, pictured below, but the trail goes on for miles. Tip: bring waterproof clothing and prepare to get soaked!
