Day 2 Itinerary

(My hotel recommendation: Bella Apartments. Stay here or in any hotel within the town of Selfoss.)

Total Drive Time: 2 hours

Strokkur Geyser

Strokkur is an active geyser located in Geysir Geothermal Area. It erupts roughly every 5-10 minutes and has an impressive height of around 15-20 meters. There is a short walk to reach the geyser on a flat walkway.

Gullfoss Waterfall

This impressive waterfall is an easy walk from the road. It has multiple viewpoints that are all worth checking out. The trail to the closest viewpoint is muddy and misty so make sure to bring a waterproof jacket and hiking shoes.

Friðheimar

By far one of the best restaurants in Iceland! The dining area is located within a tomato greenhouse and the restaurant serves dishes made with tomatoes and other vegetables from their greenhouses. This place is reservation only and reservations should be made in advance. The restaurant is only open from 12-4 PM. I’d recommend ordering their all you can eat fresh baked bread and tomato soup.

Kerid Crater

Kerid is a volcanic crater lake that is a short walk from the parking lot. The crater was formed from the aftermath of a 3,000 year old volcano. There is a small entrance fee of $3 to enter the area. Visitors can walk around the top of the crater and around the lake.
