Day 4 Itinerary

Total Drive Time: 2.5 hours

Kvernufoss Waterfall

This beautiful waterfall is very close to Skógafoss but has none of the crowds. One of my favorite things about this waterfall is that visitors can walk behind it. Park at the Skógar Museum and walk east until you find a ladder hung over the fence. Cross over the ladder and follow the short, easy trail to Kvernufoss.

Puffins of Dyrhólaey

Puffins are an iconic symbol of Iceland and Dyrhólaey is a great place to see them. The puffins nest along the cliffs and visitors can get pretty close to them. This area also offers beautiful beach views so the stop is well worth it.

Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach

Iceland’s iconic black sand beach makes you feel like you’ve arrived on another planet. The sand is black due to the remnants of volcanic minerals and rocks. It has two distinctive lava columns rising from the crashing waves, multiple small caves, and huge basalt columns on the beach. There is a cafe next to the beach for lunch. Tip: The waves here are very powerful, do not walk too close to the shoreline.

Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon

This dramatic canyon is accessible with a short, easy walk from the parking lot. The trail takes visitors to an observation deck for views into the canyon.

Restaurants in Hof

Hof is a very tiny town with not much around it. Hotels and restaurants in this area are limited. There is a restaurant located within Adventure Hotel Hof and a bar with appetizers within Fosshótel Glacier Lagoon.
