Day 5 Itinerary

Total Drive Time: 2.5 hours

Hundafoss & Svartifoss Waterfalls

These two waterfalls are located on the same trail. Svartifoss is at the end of the trail and is surrounded by dark lava columns, giving it a unique appearance. The hike is fairly easy overall but starts out with an uphill incline. The hike takes about 45 minutes to an hour on the way up and 30-45 minutes on the way down.

Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon

Watching icebergs drift and seals swim in a glacier lagoon is one of the highlights of this trip. I’d highly recommend taking the Zodiac boat tour of the lagoon since the boat gets up close to the glaciers and wildlife. The tour lasts about an hour and includes use of an insulated body suit due to the very cold temperatures within the lagoon. The tour can be booked here.

Diamond Beach

Across the road from Jökulsárlón is Diamond Beach, where you can find large pieces of ice lying around the black sand. In the water, there are seals that pop up for air which makes this stop all the more incredible.

Pakkhús Restaurant

Pakkhús is located in Höfn, a charming fishing town about an hour drive away from Jökulsárlón. There are quite a few restaurants here but I would recommend Pakkhús. This restaurant is on the pricier side but well worth it for their portions and fresh seafood. Make sure to get the langoustines because they were delicious. There are several other non-seafood options as well.
