Day 1 Itinerary
Sightseeing Tour of Cairo
Visit the Mosque of Muhammed Ali (named for the founder of modern Egypt, not the boxer). The mosque is located inside Salah El-Din Citadel, which is a medieval Islamic-era castle. Tickets to enter the castle can be purchased at the front gate. Shoes must come off to enter the mosque, shoe coverings are also available at the door.
Stroll through the Khan el-Khalili Bazaar. This giant market is a great place to buy souvenirs and find great deals on different products. Throughout the market you will find various spices, jewelry, lanterns, perfumes, apparel, and much more. A good starting place in the market is Naguib Mahfouz Coffee Shop, this is also a good place to try local Egyptian drinks and Turkish coffee. Negotiate, Negotiate, Negotiate! You can always get a lower price on everything at the market and sellers expect you to haggle.
End the day at the Grand Egyptian Museum. This museum houses the largest collection of Ancient Egyptian artifacts in the world. Tickets can be purchased at the museum entrance.
